Captiva / Key West Trip

Key West Trip

This trip started in Ft. Lauderdale on a friend’s yacht, on which we traveled down to Key West. The trip took us two days to get down there, stopping off at Quay Key for the evening. It was a very hot August week and we were on the water, which can be very deceiving in terms of temperature. Despite tons of sunscreen we all got too much sun. By the time we made it down to Key West we had to turn around rather abruptly because Hurricane Florence was speedily running up from the Caribbean islands.

Before we even landed in Ft. Lauderdale, I was enamored with the clouds. The clouds over Florida always amaze me. In comparison to other cloud formations these seem to be more full and textured. Perhaps it has something to do with the way they float over the peninsula. I see multiple levels and depths that include cirrus clouds and cumulous clouds. I have included several below. There is also something very beautiful about the sea water color. It is a blue-green mix, with more green than blue in it. Maybe this has something to do with the clouds.

The town of Key West was nothing to rave about, so leaving early was not a problem. The storm missed Key West altogether and hit farther north of Ft. Lauderdale, one day after our escape back to New York.
