Straford, Cotswell & Glastonbury
The English countryside is green with small, rolling hills scattered with quaint villages. On our way to Stratford to see Shakespeare’s family home, we passed several homes with thatched roofs. We learned that the saying "Raining Cats and Dogs" originated from these thatched roofs: animals that had bored their way into these thatched roofs fell through into the homes after a period of time. This was also the reason for canopies over beds. Despite their drawbacks, these roofs have a sweater-like feeling about them and are still used today.
Glastonbury was a place filled with mystics and hippies. As I walked into the town, the smell of incense overwhelmed me. With its legends of Celts and King Arthur, and reportedly the birthplace of Christianity in England, this place is a magnet for many mystics. The abbey and the hillside tower interested me the most. I felt no particular lure to the town or the abbey but was aware of a strong spiritual energy as I walked the streets.
