Stained Glass

I like working with stained glass because of its translucent qualities. Of course most of that interest lies within the beauty of the glass itself. Glass, even though it is clear, can have textures molded into it, which can add a very interesting to look to what is on the opposite side.

I started my stained glass work by constructing this very graphic styled piece. The outside contains diagonal pieces that are broken up with alternating clear and brown colored pieces of glass. At each edge I softened the overall look by adding small sections of circles. This softening is also made effective by adding the small rounded pieces of quartz in the center. Small crystals of clear glass were added to help refract the light that shone through the glass as it hung in a window.

The overall size is approximately 12 inches square.

In my next project I wanted to copy a scene I put together as a composite in Photoshop using three different images, the moon, the boat, and the background. I printed this composite and traced it onto brown paper. Then I cut individual glass pieces to make the final stained glass image.

The overall size is approximately 12 inches square.

This piece was one of my most abstract stained glass pieces. I compiled it using found and broken chunks in the studio. Some of the pieces of glass have been overlapped in the same fashion that Tiffany made his glass creations. Small circular pieces of crystal run down the sides to frame this abstract vision of sailing.

The overall size is approximately 12 inches square.
