Bathroom Cabinet - Small

In order to make a more functional cabinet for the bathroom I started my idea from the existing cabinet. There was only 15 inches between the door jam and the existing mirror. This new cabinet is 14 inches wide and is a little higher then the original at 27 inches. The difference is in the over lapping door, and the open storage space at the bottom. Daily used products can be placed on this lower shelf for easy access. The original cabinet had an inset door too.
Using oak plywood with veneered edges I build the body of the box. I used red oak stain in order to match the bathroom cabinet I made earlier in the year. I drilling holes on each inner side before gluing up the piece for the shelving pegs.

The back of the box and the shelving is made from cedar so the cabinet has an aromatic and natural scent.
The door is what I find most interesting because it has been made of several exotic wood varieties including, Buginga, Purple Heart, Wenge, Lacewood and Bird's Eye Maple. All of these woods are an 1/8 inch thick and cut into one inch wide sections, their length varies according to their positions on the door. These strips of wood are attached to a birch plywood base.
A black and white image of an Aspen tree is framed by all of these woods sections.
Additionally I hand crafted the handel from a Rosewood / Burl Diagonal Pen Blank. And attached two small pieces of Buginga to give the handel some breathing room for fingers. Several coats of tongue oil brings out the rich colors and beautiful figure of the wood.
Below is an off shot image idea that I had. I started with the Aspen tree image and added a glass filter to it. I printed the image on film. My intention was to let the wood background show through. In the end I thought it looked to chaotic so I went with the straight image to the right with no filter printed on glossy photo paper. Since the image below has many clear areas I could have painted the wood backing silver or gold for added interest.
