Kitchen Refacing
The kitchen cabinet is a refacing project. Using the original cabinet’s boxes, I removed the original facing and replaced it with the hand-made, solid oak, craftsmen-styled design. The design is simple enough but may have been easier to build if I had started from scratch. This particular cabinet was built to extend to the ceiling and add height to the room. A heating/air conditioning vent sits above this cabinet, so I had to reroute that vent to the side of the newly designed cabinet. I bought a number of metal venting parts, metal screws, and metal tape to redirect the heat. The duct had to make a 90-degree turn to vent the heat on the side of the cabinet. Doing this helped me maintain the look and feel of the face of this new cabinet with its long door that opens to the top. A light is positioned behind the top door, allowing the transparent image to be seen when the light is turned on. This image can be removed for a seasonal change. Lights will also be installed under the cabinet for counter lighting. |
