Charcoal and Crayon

The images below were recorded to show the process of my work. This piece is experimental and driven from my interest in tactile processes and to include my photography in different art mediums. The photograph was taken in Utah. I converted the image in Photoshop to a solarized image, and then I inverted it from a positive to a negative.

I used a projector to push the image onto a 3-foot by 6-foot piece of fiber-based rag paper that I taped to a wall in my studio. I traced the image to the paper with pencil. Several weeks later, I added color to the image using both colored charcoal and crayons. Below shows the process and changes over time.

I am not sure where I will go with this type of work or if I will do it again. I actually like the inverted image at the top of this page better than anything I created in the process with the charcoal and crayons. Despite that, I think it is a good idea for an artist to stretch herself by trying other things.

If you are interested in purchasing any of my images, please click on the Imagekind link below. Imagekind will print any of my images at varying sizes. They can also matt, frame, and glass the image if you like. If there is an image on my Web site that you do not see on the Imagekind Web site, please contact me by clicking here. I will upload the image to make it available. Thank you.
