When looking at the expansive landscapes of the western United States, I found that my camera lenses could not contain the vast space in front of me, even when I was using a 12 mm wide-angle lens. I love the West and its massive space. It makes me feel insignificant, imperfect, weak, and small. It helps me to believe in something bigger and greater than the simplicity of humanity. It also makes me think even less of human beings with huge egos. I disdain arrogance and pride. I find comfort with people who are humble. I think humble people are in touch with reality.

This is the same reality that I see in the mountains and plains out west. They exist, strong and magnificent, without saying a word. While taking photos out west I found that the effect of fish eye barrel distortion was interesting, but the fish eye did not effectively record the impact of the scene. I began shooting multiple images and then painstakingly stitching them together in Photoshop. It was very difficult because the images were all shot from different perspectives. Imagine standing in one place and panning a vast scene in front of you. The camera records the scene as it sees it, but from that single vantage point a curvature occurs. This is very difficult to correct in the computer.
